MANIFOLD

2020

Material: Sandstone

Dimension: 16 x 14 x 16 cm

Photographed by Simos Batzakis

“Manifolds” are topological concepts that allow the comprehension of multidimensional structures. In modern physics, manifolds arise as the underlying forms within a complex set of data depicted in Euclidean space. The research reverses this reductive method by augmenting linearity in three dimensions. Manifolds grow as an intuitively driven computer-aided gesture of spiral-like twists and folds of geometry 3D printed in sandstone, creating forms that define and organize empty space, light, and volume.
